South Africa Must Fight Rogue Threats to Government, Jonas Says

South Africa’s Deputy Finance Minister Mcebesi Jonas, who this week accused the Gupta family of offering him a ministerial role, urged vigilance against rogue elements that threaten the state’s sanctity.

“It’s up to society to speak out against those elements that will turn South Africa into a rogue state,” he said Saturday at a post-budget breakfast hosted by accountancy firm Morar Inc. in Pietermaritzburg.

DEPUTY Finance Minister Mcebisi Jonas, who visited Pietermaritzburg at the weekend, has dared South Africans to fight the scourge of “state capture by few companies”.

Jonas recently confirmed that he is one of the people who were approached by the Gupta family, when the controversial family allegedly shopped for a Finance minister prior to the firing of the then minister Nhlanhla Nene.
